Why are People Willing to Try Whoosh? Here's the Answer!

The Indonesia China High-Speed Rail Company (KCIC) reported that the Whoosh high-speed train had carried 718,597 passengers since its launch in October 2023 until December 8, 2023.

Given this high passenger volume, what are the main factors driving people to try Whoosh?

According to a survey by the Kurious-Katadata Insight Center (KIC), the majority of respondents (68.2%) stated that their primary reason for riding Whoosh was to experience high-speed land travel.

Next, 34.2% of respondents cited travel comfort, and 31.4% considered the ticket price to be commensurate with the facilities offered.

Furthermore, 27.9% of respondents considered trying Whoosh because they had never ridden a long-distance train before.

The influence of others also played a role, with 12.7% of respondents citing having seen others try it and 10.2% mentioning recommendations from others.

This survey on the main factors influencing respondents to try Whoosh used a multiple-answer option, allowing respondents to select more than one answer.

The Kurious-KIC survey involved 1,504 respondents across Indonesia, comprising 59.90% female and 43.10% male respondents.

The majority of respondents (63.1%) were from Java (excluding Jakarta), followed by respondents from DKI Jakarta (16.5%) and Sumatra (13%). The proportion of respondents from Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Bali-Nusa Tenggara, and Maluku-Papua ranged from 0.2% to 3.7%.

Data collection was conducted from November 6-9, 2023, using computer-assisted web interviewing (CAWI), with a margin of error of approximately 2.5% and a 95% confidence level.
