75% of Children and Adolescents Already Use the Internet

In 2016, internet penetration in Indonesia significantly increased. A recorded 132 million Indonesians used the internet in their daily lives. Based on age group, 75.5 percent of children and teenagers (10-24 years old) consumed internet content. The highest penetration rate was among the 25-44 age group, reaching 75.8 percent.

Rapid technological advancements have significantly impacted lifestyles, including those of Indonesian children and teenagers. Easy access allows them to experience the internet from a young age. However, freely available content poses a challenge to internet safety, particularly for children and teenagers. Government website blocking is also considered insufficient. Therefore, collaboration between the government and parents is needed to educate children on the responsible use of the internet.
