Indonesia Ranks Among the Top Three Countries with the Most Data Breaches in the World

Data breaches have been widely reported in Indonesia in recent weeks. One example is the data breach perpetrated by the anonymous individual known as Bjorka, who reportedly hacked data from state-owned enterprises (SOEs), ministries, and several government officials.

According to cybersecurity firm Surfshark, Indonesia ranks third globally in the number of data breaches. A total of 12,740,013 accounts experienced data breaches in the country during the third quarter of 2022 (data recorded until September 13, 2022).

Russia had the highest number of data breaches globally during the same period, with 14,780,000 accounts affected in Q3 2022.

France ranked second with 12,950,000 data breaches. Below Indonesia was the United States with 4,827,286 data breaches.

Globally, 72,450,000 accounts experienced data breaches by the third quarter of 2022. According to Surfshark, 839 accounts were breached every 60 seconds during this quarter, a 32.7% increase compared to the second quarter of 2022, which saw 632 accounts breached per minute.
