According to a survey by the Ministry of Communication and Informatics and the Katadata Insight Center (KIC), Indonesian public awareness of personal data protection remains relatively low.

The survey noted that 53.6% of respondents had a low level of personal data protection.

Meanwhile, only 46.4% of respondents had a high level of personal data protection.

This level of personal data protection was measured through various indicators of risky behavior on social media, such as including phone numbers, dates of birth, home addresses, family member details, and current location information.

It was also measured based on respondents' digital activities that threaten personal data security, such as attempting to install applications without knowing the developer, uploading KTP (Indonesian ID card) photos, and uploading flight or train tickets.

"From the answers regarding personal data protection, it can be concluded that 53.6% of the public have a low level of personal data protection," explained the Ministry of Communication and Informatics and KIC in their report.

This survey was conducted in October 2021 using a face-to-face interview method.

The survey sample consisted of 10,000 respondents from 34 provinces and 514 regencies/cities in Indonesia. All respondents were Indonesian citizens aged 13-70 years who had accessed the internet in the past three months.

The survey has a margin of error of +/- 0.98% with a 95% confidence level using a multistage random sampling method.
