KIC: Indonesians Most Frequently Use WhatsApp Social Media

It's undeniable that social media has permeated all aspects of life and become a magnet for many people, including in Indonesia. Of the various social media platforms, Indonesians most frequently use WhatsApp.

This is based on responses from a survey conducted by the Katadata Insight Center (KIC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo). 73.9% of respondents use WhatsApp for more than an hour a day.

The breakdown shows that 46.3% and 27.6% of respondents use WhatsApp for 1-5 hours and more than 5 hours per day, respectively. Meanwhile, 26.1% of respondents use the social media platform for less than an hour per day.

Next, YouTube is the social media platform most used by Indonesians. 70.6% of respondents use it for more than an hour a day. The breakdown shows that 61.1% and 9.5% of respondents use the application for 1-5 hours and more than 5 hours per day, respectively.

The third most used social media platform is Facebook. 58.4% of respondents use Facebook for more than an hour a day. Meanwhile, 41.6% of respondents use Facebook for less than an hour a day.

This research involved 11,305 respondents spread across 34 provinces in Indonesia. The online survey was conducted from July 14-21, 2021, using non-probability sampling.
