Indonesia's Fixed Broadband Internet Speed Remains Low, Ranked 8th in ASEAN in 2021

Indonesia's internet penetration lags behind several Southeast Asian (ASEAN) countries. Uneven network coverage and low speeds hinder internet penetration domestically.

According to data from the *Speedtest Global Index*, the download speed of fixed broadband internet was only 20.13 megabits per second (mbps) in November 2021. This placed Indonesia's fixed broadband internet download speed 111th out of 181 countries worldwide.

At the ASEAN level, the download speed of fixed broadband internet also lags behind, ranking 8th out of 10 countries. Indonesia only outperforms Cambodia with a speed of 18.96 mbps and Myanmar with a speed of 15.64 mbps.

Singapore recorded the fastest fixed broadband internet download speed in ASEAN, reaching 184.65 mbps. It also holds the record for the fastest fixed broadband internet speed globally.

The next fastest ASEAN countries in fixed broadband internet download speed are Thailand at 171.37 mbps, followed by Malaysia at 74.84 mbps, and Vietnam at 68.5 mbps.

For information, the global average download speed for fixed broadband internet reached 58 mbps, while the upload speed was 24.27 mbps in November 2021.
