COD Became the Favorite E-commerce Payment System in 2020

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports that 78.72% of e-commerce businesses across almost all sectors use cash on delivery (COD) as their payment method. BPS explains that approximately one-third of e-commerce businesses with 20-29 employees or more most frequently use COD compared to other payment methods.

The next most frequently used payment method is bank transfer, at 16.33%. Bank transfers are used more often by e-commerce businesses with 100 or more employees.

Following this, 4.43% use e-wallets as their payment method. Finally, 0.52% of online sales are paid for using cards.

The 2021 e-commerce statistics are a publication compiled based on the results of the 2021 e-commerce survey conducted on a sample of 11,928 businesses across all provinces in Indonesia. The scope of the 2020 e-commerce survey included businesses that used the internet to receive orders or sell goods and/or services during 2020.

E-commerce itself is defined as the sale or purchase of goods or services conducted through a computer network with a model specifically designed for the purpose of receiving or placing orders.
