Research by the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo) and the Katadata Insight Center (KIC) reveals that 15 provinces have the highest digital literacy index.
Yogyakarta Special Region took first place with a score of 3.64. Although this represents a decrease from last year's score of 3.71, Yogyakarta remains in the top spot.
West Kalimantan came in second, also with a score of 3.64. East Kalimantan held its third-place position from the previous year, scoring 3.62.
Kominfo notes that several provinces remained in the top 10, including West Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, and West Papua. However, there were shifts among provinces on Java Island, such as Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, and East Java.
"Four regions on Java Island showed significant changes this year, placing them among the top 10 provinces with the highest index values," Kominfo wrote in its report published on Wednesday, February 1st.
Kominfo stated that the highest score increases were seen in North Maluku (increase of 0.36), Riau (increase of 0.27), and South Kalimantan (increase of 0.36). The provinces with the highest score decreases were Bangka Belitung Islands (decrease of 0.36), Gorontalo (decrease of 0.26), and West Sulawesi (decrease of 0.24).

Overall, the national index score in 2022 reached 3.54, an increase from 3.49 the previous year.
This annual survey has been conducted for three consecutive years. This year's survey was conducted between August 1st and September 31st, 2022.
The method used was multistage random sampling of 10,000 respondents throughout Indonesia who used the internet in the three months prior to the survey and were aged 13-70 years old.
