Queen Elizabeth II, the leader of the United Kingdom, passed away at the age of 96 on Thursday, September 8, 2022.
Following the Queen's passing, the throne of the United Kingdom was inherited by Prince Charles, the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II, who now holds the title of King.
"The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family," Charles said in a press release on the official website of the British Monarchy on Thursday, September 8, 2022. "We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world," he continued.
According to an Ipsos survey, 48% of British citizens believe Prince Charles will perform well as King. Meanwhile, 27% believe his performance will be average, and 19% believe it will be poor.
When broken down by age, the group most supportive or optimistic about Prince Charles's performance as King is the older generation (55-75 years old). Optimism towards Charles's performance decreases with younger age groups, as shown in the graph.
This Ipsos survey involved 2,055 British citizens aged 16-75 years. The survey was conducted online in March 2022.
