Despite the Pandemic, Manchester City Became the Richest Football Club; Revenue Increased by 17%

Manchester City became the richest football club in the world after its revenue surged by more than 17% in the 2020/2021 season, even during the pandemic.

According to the Deloitte Football Money League 2022 report, the English Premier League club recorded a revenue increase of €95.7 million (17.43%) to €644.9 million, or approximately Rp9.73 trillion (using an exchange rate of Rp15,083 per US dollar) in the 2020/2021 season.

This achievement is the highest in the last five seasons, as shown in the graph.

This revenue surge placed Manchester City as the wealthiest football club globally. This position displaced FC Barcelona, which dropped three places due to an 18% drop in revenue to €582.1 million, according to the Deloitte 2022 report.

The English club's revenue primarily comes from broadcasting rights (€335.9 million, 52%). Commercial revenue reached €308.2 million (48%), while matchday revenue was €0.8 million (0%).

For information, the club nicknamed The Citizens won the English Premier League title in the 2021/2022 season. Coached by Josep Guardiola, the team was also the highest-scoring club last season, with 99 goals.
