The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) ranking released on December 21, 2017, placed the Indonesian national football team (Timnas) at 162nd in the world with a score of 121. This is a nine-place improvement from the previous year's ranking of 171. In Southeast Asia, the team, nicknamed Garuda, ranked 5th, below Myanmar.
Vietnam had the strongest national team in Southeast Asia, scoring 298 points and ranking 112th globally. The Philippines ranked second in the region with a score of 263 and a global ranking of 124th, followed by Thailand in third place in ASEAN with a score of 236 and a global ranking of 130th.
Meanwhile, Germany, with a score of 1,602, held the top spot in the world rankings. The team, nicknamed Der Panzer, are the 2014 World Cup champions. Brazil ranked second globally with a score of 1,483, and Portugal, the 2016 European Championship winners, ranked third with a score of 1,358.
