So, what are the reasons that encourage Indonesian people to exercise?
Based on the results of a survey by Kurious-Katadata Insight Center (KIC), the majority, or 82.5% of respondents, exercise to maintain their health.
The group exercising for this reason is mostly male, with a proportion of 84.6%, while women account for 80.2%.
Furthermore, 40.1% of the total respondents exercise to manage their weight, and 36.2% exercise to fill their leisure time.
Then, 35.5% of respondents do this activity to improve their physique/body shape, and 33.1% exercise to avoid stress.
The remainder, 0.6% of respondents, stated other reasons, such as hobbies and work.
The Kurious-KIC survey was conducted on 875 respondents spread across Indonesia, with 52.1% male respondents and 47.9% female respondents.
More than half of the respondents came from the island of Java outside Jakarta (62.6%), followed by respondents from Sumatra (13.6%), and DKI Jakarta (13.5%). Meanwhile, the proportion of respondents from Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Bali-Nusa Tenggara, and Maluku-Papua ranged from 4% to 1.3%.
Most respondents were from the 35-44 age group (33.3%), followed by the 25-34 age group (31%) and the 45-54 age group (21.5%).
Data collection was conducted from June 26 to July 7, 2023, using the computer-assisted web interviewing (CAWI) method with a margin of error of approximately 3.31% and a 95% confidence level.
