According to a report by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), there were 2,720 goals scored in 964 matches during the 22 editions of the FIFA World Cup.
The first edition took place in Uruguay in 1930, while the 22nd edition was held in Qatar in 2022.
Throughout the history of the World Cup, FIFA records Miroslav Klose as the top scorer or the player who has scored the most goals.
The German striker scored 16 goals, consisting of five goals each in the 2002 and 2006 World Cups, four goals in the 2010 World Cup, and two goals in the 2014 World Cup.
In second place is Brazilian striker Ronaldo with a total of 15 goals. He scored four goals in the 1998 World Cup, eight goals in the 2002 World Cup, and three goals in the 2006 World Cup.
