Arsenal dethroned Liverpool from the top of the English Premier League table in week 31 after securing a 2-0 victory over Luton Town at the Emirates Stadium in the early hours of Thursday, April 4th, 2024 (WIB).
Martin Odegaard scored for The Gunners in the 24th minute, and Luton defender Daiki Hasioka scored an own goal in the 44th minute.
The home win earned Arsenal an additional three points, bringing their total to 68, one point ahead of their rivals Liverpool and Manchester City.
However, Liverpool were to play on Friday, April 5th, 2024, against bottom-placed Sheffield United. Meanwhile, Man City won 4-1 against Aston Villa in the early hours of the same day.
Rodri opened the scoring for Man City (11'), which was then answered by Jhon Duran (20'). Phil Foden then completed a hat-trick for The Citizens (45+1', 62', 69').
As a result, the competition between the top three clubs in the English Premier League will intensify towards the end of the season. Arsenal, Liverpool, and Man City will be tested in the eight to nine remaining matches they will play until May.
Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur are vying for a Champions League spot. After their defeat to Man City, Villa remain in fourth place with 59 points, two points ahead of Tottenham.
Besides Liverpool vs Sheffield, Manchester United will also face Chelsea on Friday, April 5th, 2024. Man United are currently in sixth place with 48 points.
