Forbes released its list of the 50 highest-paid athletes in 2021. The majority of the world's richest athletes come from American football.

Eighteen American football players were listed as having high incomes. According to Forbes, Dak Prescott is the richest football athlete, with a fortune of US$107.5 million, or Rp 1.6 trillion (at an exchange rate of Rp 14,500/US$), in the last year.

Besides football, basketball boasts 13 athletes among the world's wealthiest. Forbes reports that one of the richest basketball players is LeBron James, with a total income of US$96.5 million, equivalent to Rp 1.4 trillion.

Top-tier footballers Lionel Messi from Argentina and Cristiano Ronaldo from Portugal also made the Forbes list of richest athletes. However, the top spot belongs to Conor McGregor, a mixed martial arts athlete, with a total net worth of US$180 million, or Rp 2.6 trillion.

McGregor's highest earnings didn't come from competitions. His wealth stems from endorsements and advertising deals with companies and liquor businesses since 2018. His total profit from these ventures reached US$158 million, equivalent to Rp 2.3 trillion.
