There are 190,000 Construction Companies in Indonesia: Their Distribution

A report by Indonesia's Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) reveals that 190,677 construction companies were spread across all Indonesian provinces in 2023.

The BPS added that construction projects in Indonesia are predominantly undertaken by small-scale companies, numbering 157,322 or 82.51% of the total. Medium-scale companies account for 31,413 (16.47%).

"In other words, large-scale construction companies are still rare in Indonesia," wrote the BPS in its *2023 Construction Statistics* report on Tuesday, December 31, 2024.

Last year, only 1.02%, or 1,942 large-scale companies, existed in Indonesia. Most of these are located in DKI Jakarta.

Further breakdown by island shows Java as having the highest number of construction companies: 56,137 small-scale, 17,602 medium-scale, and 1,188 large-scale companies.

A total of 74,927 companies (39.30% of the total) are located on Java, with 23,624 in East Java Province alone.

Sumatra is second, with 40,050 small-scale, 5,920 medium-scale, and 282 large-scale companies.

Following Sumatra is Kalimantan, with 19,270 small-scale, 2,708 medium-scale, and 186 large-scale companies.

Next is Sulawesi, with 19,219 small-scale, 2,672 medium-scale, and 140 large-scale companies.

Then Maluku and Papua, with 12,212 small-scale, 1,744 medium-scale, and 87 large-scale companies.

Finally, Bali and Nusa Tenggara have 10,434 small-scale, 767 medium-scale, and 59 large-scale companies.
