Based on a survey by Indikator Politik Indonesia, the majority of the public is satisfied with the National Police (Polri)'s performance in investigating the case of former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) chairman Firli Bahuri.
The survey shows that 61.1% of respondents expressed satisfaction with the Polri's performance. This breaks down to 6.7% very satisfied and 54.4% quite satisfied.
However, 32.9% of respondents were dissatisfied with the Polri's performance in investigating Firli's case. This includes 28.1% who stated they were somewhat dissatisfied and 4.8% who were completely dissatisfied. The remaining 6% of respondents answered "don't know/didn't answer" (TT/TJ).
Burhanuddin Muhtadi, Executive Director of Indikator Politik Indonesia, considers the percentage of dissatisfied respondents to be quite high.
"This is not a small number (percentage) for the police," said Burhanuddin in an online press conference on the Indikator Politik Indonesia YouTube channel on Tuesday (23/1/2024).
According to Burhanuddin, the public doubts the Polri's performance in handling Firli's case, therefore greater transparency from the police regarding their findings and actions is needed.
"The Polri needs to better explain what has been done, how clear the evidence they have gathered is, so that public doubts can be dispelled," said Burhanuddin.
Previously, the Jakarta Metro Police (Polda Metro Jaya) named Firli a suspect in a case of alleged extortion against former Minister of Defense Syahrul Yasin Limpo. Firli is suspected of extorting the Nasdem Party politician over a corruption case at the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan).
This survey involved 1,200 respondents aged 17 or older or already married at the time of the survey, spread across Indonesia. The sample was selected using multistage random sampling.
Indikator Politik Indonesia then conducted an oversample in 13 provinces: Aceh, North Sumatra, South Sumatra, Lampung, DKI Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, Banten, Bali, East Nusa Tenggara, North Sulawesi, and South Sulawesi. Using stratified random sampling, the total sample size was 4,560 respondents.
Data collection was conducted from December 30, 2023, to January 6, 2024, using face-to-face interviews by trained interviewers. The margin of error is approximately 2.9%, and the confidence level is 95%.
