Complaints to the National Human Rights Commission Decreased in 2020

Public complaints received by the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) have shown a downward trend since 2016. In 2016, Komnas HAM received 7,188 cases. This downward trend continued into 2020.

The number of complaints decreased by 25% to 5,387 cases in 2017. In 2018, the number increased by 13.2% to 6,098 cases, but then fell again by 12.8% to 5,314 in 2019.

Throughout 2020, the number of complaints received by Komnas HAM further decreased by 9.7% to 4,794 cases. Of these complaints, 2,841 cases were accepted.

The right to welfare was the most frequently reported issue last year, with 1,025 cases. Issues related to the right to welfare included land disputes, labor and employment disputes, healthcare services, migrant worker protection, and housing disputes.

The next most frequent complaints concerned the right to justice, totaling 887 cases. These justice-related issues involved the performance of law enforcement agencies, including the police, the prosecutor's office, and the judiciary.

The entities most frequently reported to Komnas HAM were the police (758 cases), corporations (455 cases), and local governments (276 cases).
