The Indonesian General Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) RI states that money politics is one of the five highest risks in the upcoming general election (Pemilu) at the provincial level. A total of 22 such cases were identified by Bawaslu through a risk mapping of the 2024 General Election.

Based on the 2019 General Election and the 2022 Regional Head Elections, Bawaslu categorizes the modus operandi of money politics by candidates or political parties into three forms: direct giving, giving goods, and making promises.

Direct giving includes the distribution of cash, vouchers, or digital money in exchange for votes.
