The Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Puan Maharani, has embarked on a political campaign trail. This move aims to boost Puan's electability as a presidential candidate (Capres) in the 2024 presidential election (Pilpres).
According to a survey by the Indonesian Survey Institute (LSI), Puan Maharani's electability remains relatively low, as shown in the graph. Compared to other presidential candidates such as Ganjar Pranowo, Prabowo Subianto, or Anies Baswedan, Puan's electability lags significantly behind.
In a semi-open simulation of 19 names in the LSI's national survey conducted from August 13-21, 2022, the Governor of Central Java, Ganjar Pranowo, received the most mentions from respondents, reaching 24.5% of the vote. He was followed by the Minister of Defense, Prabowo Subianto, with 21.3% electability, and Anies Baswedan with 19.23% of the vote.
Meanwhile, Puan Maharani's electability was only 1.3% of the vote. This result is below that of the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, Erick Thohir, who achieved 1.7% and above that of the Governor of East Java, Khofifah Indar Parawansa.
With these figures, Puan Maharani needs to work exceptionally hard to increase her public recognition to compete with other presidential candidates and achieve a higher ranking. It is noteworthy that the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) is the only political party that has secured a ticket to nominate a presidential candidate without needing a coalition.
For information, Puan Maharani, who also serves as the Head of the Politics and Security Sector of the PDI Perjuangan, made a political visit to the Chairman of the National Democrat Party (Nasdem), Surya Paloh, in Jakarta on Monday, August 22, 2022. Puan also met with the General Chairperson of the Gerindra Party, Prabowo Subianto, on Sunday, September 4, 2022.
