The Transportation and Warehousing Sector Grew by 3.24% in 2021

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at current prices of the transportation and warehousing sector reached Rp719.63 trillion in 2021. This value represents only 4.24% of the national GDP, which totaled Rp16.97 quadrillion.

Measured at 2010 constant prices, the GDP of the transportation and warehousing sector grew by 3.24% to Rp406.19 trillion in 2021 from the previous year. This achievement is higher than in 2020, which experienced a contraction of 15.05%.

The implementation of social restrictions to curb the spread of the coronavirus paralyzed the transportation sector in the first year of the Covid-19 pandemic. Public mobility decreased drastically, resulting in negative growth for the sector in 2020.

From 2011 to 2019, the national transportation and warehousing sector grew by an average of 7.31% per year. The highest growth was 8.49% in 2017, and the lowest was 6.38% in 2019. This shows how the growth of the transportation and warehousing sector in 2021 has not yet been able to recover to pre-pandemic levels.

The growth of the transportation sector is also still below the growth of the Indonesian economy, which reached 3.69% in 2021.
