Indonesia's Per Capita Income Rises to Rp 62.2 Million per Year

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports that Indonesian per capita income, measured by Gross Domestic Product (GDP), grew by 8.5% to Rp 62.2 million (US$ 4,350) per year in 2021, compared to Rp 57.3 million in 2020. This income growth is in line with the 3.69% growth in the domestic economy last year.

Indonesian per capita income surpassed pre-pandemic levels (2019), which stood at Rp 59.1 million per year. This means that national GDP per capita reached a record high last year, as shown in the graph.

Indonesia's economy, based on 2010 constant prices, grew by 3.69% throughout 2021, compared to a 2.07% contraction the previous year.

In terms of business sectors, the growth of the domestic economy last year was supported by, among others, the manufacturing industry, which contributed 19.25% to the GDP and recorded growth of 3.39%. This was followed by the agricultural sector, with a contribution of 13.28%, which grew by 1.84%, and the wholesale and retail trade sector, with a contribution of 12.97%, which grew by 4.65%.

From the expenditure side, the household consumption component, which contributed 54.42% to the GDP, grew by 2.02% in 2021. Following this was the gross fixed capital formation (GFCF) component, which contributed 30.81% to the GDP and grew by 3.8%.
