Indonesia's economic growth, based on Gross Domestic Product (GDP), reached 5.03% in the first quarter (January-March) of 2023. This achievement is inseparable from the contribution and growth of each region.
Java Island still dominated the contribution of Regional Gross Domestic Product (RGDP) in the first quarter of 2023, at 57.17%. This figure increased from 56.48% in the fourth quarter of 2022.
Sumatra held the second position with the highest RGDP contribution at 21.82%. This figure decreased from 22.04% in the fourth quarter of 2022.
Third, Kalimantan contributed 9%. Meanwhile, Sulawesi contributed 6.87%.
Bali and Nusa Tenggara contributed 2.68%. Finally, Maluku and Papua contributed 2.46% of the RGDP.
In addition, the growth of these islands was also measured. Sulawesi had the highest year-on-year (YoY) growth at 7%, slightly down from 7.03% in the fourth quarter of 2022.

Kalimantan had the second-highest growth at 5.79%. Java was only in third place with growth of 4.96%.
The remaining regions showed the following growth: Sumatra (4.79%), Bali and Nusa Tenggara (4.74%), and Maluku and Papua (1.95%).
"With the removal of the Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) policy on December 30, 2022, economic growth in most provinces showed strengthening," wrote the BPS (Central Bureau of Statistics) in its official statement.
