Based on a release from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), purchasing power in the fourth quarter of 2017 showed improvement. This is reflected in the growth of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) based on expenditure from the household consumption component in the last quarter of last year, which grew by 4.97% compared to the same quarter of the previous year. Although still below 5%, this achievement was the highest in the last year.
Compared to the previous quarter, however, household consumption expenditure only grew slightly by 0.01%. Accumulatively, for the first to fourth quarters of 2017, household consumption grew by 4.95%, lower than the previous year's 5.01%.
According to the BPS, the Indonesian economy in the fourth quarter of 2017 grew by 5.19% year-on-year (YoY), while compared to the previous quarter, it contracted by 1.7%. Accumulatively for the first to fourth quarters of 2017, the domestic economy grew by 5.07%, a slight increase from the same period of the previous year, which was 5.03%.
