Post-Regional Expansion, the 2024 GRDP of 6 Provinces in Papua Land

Following the regional expansion, there are now six provinces in Papua.

Central Papua has the largest economy. Based on data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), this newly established province had a regional gross domestic product (RGDP) at current prices of Rp174.94 trillion in 2024. This figure contributed 40.31% to the total RGDP of Papua Island, which was Rp434.02 trillion.

Central Papua's large RGDP is supported by the mining sector, which contributed Rp134.7 trillion, equivalent to 76% of the region's economic value. As is known, this region contains Indonesia's largest gold mine, owned by PT Freeport Indonesia.

The next largest economies on the island are in Papua Province with an RGDP of Rp85.91 trillion (19.8%), followed by West Papua at Rp76.18 trillion (15.55%), West Papua Daya at Rp37.04 trillion (8.53%), and South Papua and Highland Papua at Rp33.38 trillion (7.69%) and Rp26.56 trillion (6.12%) respectively.

The RGDP of these six provinces in Papua only contributed 1.97% to the total RGDP of Indonesia's 38 provinces in 2024.

The following are the RGDP figures at constant prices for the six provinces in Papua in 2024:

1. Central Papua: Rp105.47 trillion
2. Papua: Rp51.59 trillion
3. West Papua: Rp49.49 trillion
4. West Papua Daya: Rp24.87 trillion
5. South Papua: Rp18.96 trillion
6. Highland Papua: Rp13.80 trillion
