Jakarta's Per Capita PDRB Falls Due to COVID-19

Jakarta has the highest regional gross domestic product (RGDP) per capita in Indonesia. However, Jakarta's RGDP per capita decreased with the arrival of the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia.

Jakarta's RGDP per capita at current prices was recorded at Rp 260.44 million in 2020. This figure decreased by 2.4% from 2019, which was Rp 266.79 million.

The same happened to the RGDP per capita at constant 2010 prices. The value of Jakarta's RGDP per capita at constant 2010 prices was Rp 168.42 million, down 3.2% from 2019, which was Rp 173.92 million.

RGDP per capita is the average income of the population obtained by dividing the RGDP by the population in a certain region in a particular year. The higher the per capita income, the more prosperous the region.

The decrease in Jakarta's RGDP per capita was triggered by restrictions on economic activity to suppress the spread of Covid-19. As a result, there was a decrease in public purchasing power, a contraction in trade, and a decline in investment.
