Transportation and Warehousing Sector Records Highest Growth in Q3 2022

The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) reports that Indonesia's economy grew by 5.72% in the third quarter of 2022 compared to the third quarter of 2021 (year on year/y-on-y).

BPS Head Margo Yuwono stated in his official release that the easing of travel requirements, the holding of international events, and religious activities boosted population mobility throughout the third quarter of 2022.

The number of passengers across all modes of transportation increased in the third quarter of 2022. The number of foreign tourists and the average hotel occupancy rate (TPK) increased by 21.03 percentage points (y-on-y).

Furthermore, there was a 12.46% (y-on-y) increase in the realization of social protection programs. Similarly, the realization of fuel subsidy (BBM) increased by 111.96% (y-on-y).

"The recovery of mobility and sustained purchasing power boosted economic activity, both in terms of production and consumption," said Margo.

Of the 17 main business fields, 7 sectors recorded growth above the national GDP. Nine sectors grew below the national GDP. One sector experienced contraction, as shown in the graph.

Almost all major sectors recorded growth except for the health services sector, which experienced a contraction of 1.74% (y-on-y).

The transportation and warehousing sector recorded the highest growth in the third quarter of 2022, with a growth of 25.81% (y-on-y). This was followed by accommodation providers at 17.83% (y-on-y), and government administration at 12.42% (y-on-y).
