Foreign Exchange Reserves Hit New Record High with US$4 Billion Increase

Bank Indonesia's (BI) foreign exchange reserves increased by US$4.23 billion in December 2017 to US$130.2 billion, up from the previous month. This is a new all-time high for the central bank.

The increase in BI's foreign exchange reserves was supported by foreign exchange receipts from the government's issuance of global bonds, tax revenue, and government-allocated oil and gas exports.

The foreign exchange reserves at the end of last year were sufficient to finance 8.6 months of imports or 8.3 months of imports and government foreign debt payments. This figure is above the international adequacy standard of around 3 months of imports.
