Indonesia: One of the Best Countries for Adventure Tourism

According to the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), "adventure tourism" is a tourism activity that includes at least two of the following three elements: physical activity, natural environment, and cultural immersion.

Activities classified as adventure tourism include fishing, mountain climbing, surfing, diving, white-water rafting, caving, birdwatching, archaeological site tours, and so on.

Here are the top 10 adventure tourism destinations in the world according to a 2020 CEOWorld survey:

1. Brazil: 98.53 points
2. Costa Rica: 98.39 points
3. Greece: 98.28 points
4. Argentina: 95.71 points
5. Portugal: 95.26 points
6. Italy: 94.87 points
7. New Zealand: 93.85 points
8. Spain: 91.58 points
9. Indonesia: 90.95 points
10. Norway: 90.86 points

These scores were obtained from a survey of 120,000 people, mostly from the United States (US).

Respondents were asked to rate destination countries considering their adventure appeal, natural environment, and culture.

As a result, Brazil received the highest score and was named the best country for adventure tourism destinations with a score of 98.53 points out of 100.

Brazil has vast rainforests and the world's largest river, the Amazon. This country in Central America also boasts diverse natural landscapes ranging from beaches, mountains, and waterfalls to caves in the jungle.

Indonesia is the only Asian country on this list, scoring 90.95 points and ranking ninth globally.

As an archipelago located in the Pacific Ring of Fire and the Coral Triangle, Indonesia offers many attractive adventure tourism options both on land and at sea.
