Indonesia's Orchid Production Decreased by 37.22% in 2020

Indonesia is one of the world's leading orchid producers. Orchids are a major contributor to horticultural production.

According to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), orchid production reached 11.68 million stems in 2020. This figure is down 37.22% compared to 2019, which reached 18.61 million stems.

Orchid production from 2016 to 2020 showed a fluctuating trend. In 2016, orchid production was 19.98 million stems, increasing by 0.35% in 2017 and rising again by 23.3% in 2018 to reach 24.72 million stems.

The following year, orchid production fell by 24.71% and decreased further by 37.22% in 2020. In addition to the decline in production, the harvested area of orchids in Indonesia also decreased by 0.44% in 2020 to 95.38 hectares. The highest orchid production in 2020 occurred in the fourth quarter, reaching 3.26 million stems. The harvested area during this period reached 40.43 hectares.

East Java had the highest orchid production in 2020, with 4.25 million stems, equivalent to 36.38% of national orchid production that year. West Java followed with 4.08 million stems (34.91%), followed by Banten with 1.36 million stems (11.62%).
