The online communication application Telegram is increasingly popular on a global scale.
Although its popularity still lags behind WhatsApp, Telegram has several advantages, such as the ability to send large data files, create online communication groups with a capacity of 200,000 participants, fast synchronization, and more.
This application also features a secret chat room (Secret Chat), where sent messages are automatically encrypted so that no third party can read the message content without the user's consent.
Based on data from Business of Apps, Telegram users worldwide reached 500 million in 2021. This number increased by 25% compared to the previous year, which stood at 400 million.
The Telegram application was once recorded as widely used in Iran, with 50 million users. However, since 2018, the Iranian government has banned its citizens from using this application on the grounds that 'communication through Telegram cannot be detected'.
Telegram was founded in 2013 and is currently headquartered in Dubai. The company claims that it will never monetize users' personal data to create targeted advertising profiles.
