Top 10 Regions with the Most Publishers in Indonesia in 2024

According to data from the National Library of Indonesia (Perpusnas), in 2024 South Jakarta had the highest number of publishers in Indonesia, with 60 publishers.

Sleman Regency ranked second with 33 publishers, followed by Central Jakarta with 27, East Jakarta with 22, and Surabaya with 21.

Other areas in the top 10 include Padang, Bandung, West Jakarta, Bantul Regency, and Makassar, as shown in the graph.

Meanwhile, according to the Indonesian Publishers Association (Ikapi), the publishing industry currently faces various challenges, such as book governance, book policies, and book piracy.

"Although the challenges faced are quite complex, Ikapi's management is optimistic that the publishing industry will rebound," said Ikapi's public relations officer in a press release earlier this year (February 26, 2025).

Ikapi also stated that this year they plan to hold the 2025 National Book Day celebration, the National Book City selection, cooperation and synergy between central and regional management, and encourage the creation of regional regulations as a follow-up or derivative of the Book System Law.
