Relx Group, the World's Largest Book Publisher, Earns Rp 80.4 Trillion

The success of a book in becoming a bestseller, read by millions, is not solely determined by its excellent content. The publisher also plays a major role in a book's market success. Publishers Weekly released a list of the highest-earning book publishers in 2019.

Here is a list of the eight highest-earning book publishers in the world in 2019:

1. Relx Group - US$ 5.64 billion (Rp 80.4 trillion, exchange rate Rp 14,266.5)

Relx Group was founded in 1993 and is headquartered in London, England. This group of companies consists of publishers of scientific, medical, and legal materials.

2. Thomson Reuters – US$ 5.28 billion (Rp 75.3 trillion)

This company is a multinational media conglomerate in Canada. Founded in 2008, Thomson Reuters is ranked as the leading corporate brand in Canada.

3. Pearson – US$ 5.08 billion (Rp 72.5 trillion)

Pearson was founded in 1844 and is headquartered in London, England. Pearson operates in over 70 countries, with 60% of its revenue coming from the North American market.

4. Bertelsmann – US$ 4.16 billion (Rp 59.35 trillion)

Bertelsmann is part of Penguin Random House, a multinational publishing company formed in 2013. The company is headquartered in New York, United States.

5. Wolters Kluwer – US$ 3.98 billion (Rp 56.78 trillion)

This book publishing company operates in over 150 countries and is headquartered in the Netherlands and the United States. Wolters Kluwer was founded in 1987 through a merger of Kluwer Publishers and Wolters Samsom.

6. Hachette Livre – US$ 2.68 billion (Rp 38.2 trillion)

Hachette Book Group, or HBG, has been in existence since 1837. Now HBG publishes various genres ranging from romance novels to children's stories.

7. Springer Nature – US$ 1.93 billion (Rp 27.5 trillion)

Springer Nature is a scientific publishing company formed through the merger of Springer Science+Business Media and Georg von Holtzbrinck Publishing Group's Nature Publishing Group, Palgrave Macmillan, and Macmillan Education in May 2015.

8. Wiley – US$ 1.8 billion (Rp 25.68 trillion)

Founded in 1807, Wiley is a book publishing company that focuses on academic books for students, journals, and encyclopedias.
