Agrarian Conflicts During Jokowi's Era Outnumber Those During SBY's Era

Agrarian conflicts during President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi) administration increased compared to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's (SBY) era.

This increase occurred in the number of cases, the number of affected households (KK), and the area of conflict.

The following is a comparison of agrarian conflict figures during the SBY and Jokowi eras, according to the Agrarian Reform Consortium (KPA) report:

President SBY's Era (2005-2014):

* Number of agrarian conflicts: 1,520 cases
* Number of affected people: 977,103 households
* Area of agrarian conflict: 5,711,396 hectares

President Jokowi's Era (2015-2023):

* Number of agrarian conflicts: 2,939 cases
* Number of affected people: 1,759,308 households
* Area of agrarian conflict: 6,309,261 hectares

KPA obtained this data from several sources, namely:

* Victims who reported agrarian conflicts to KPA, either directly or through intermediaries;
* Reports from KPA members and networks;
* Field monitoring;
* Monitoring of mass media coverage;
* Conflict database in the agrarian emergency rapid response system; and
* Results of field investigations.

With limited organizational resources, the data compiled by KPA may not represent all agrarian conflicts in Indonesia.

KPA also only records cases of "structural agrarian conflict," namely land conflicts caused by public officials' policies, and resulting in the threat and/or elimination of the constitutional rights of the community to agrarian resources.

This data does not include ordinary land disputes, such as inheritance disputes, land disputes between companies, and so on.
