Indonesia's External Debt Falls to Rp409 Billion in April 2022

Bank Indonesia (BI) reported that Indonesia's external debt (ULN) stood at US$409.5 billion in April 2022. This figure represents a 0.63% decrease compared to the previous month (month-to-month/m-to-m).

On a year-on-year (yoy) basis, the April 2022 ULN position contracted by 2.2%, a deeper contraction than the 1% (yoy) contraction in the previous month.

In detail, the Government's ULN position in April 2022 was recorded at US$190.5 billion, down from US$196.2 billion in the previous month.

Central bank debt was recorded at US$8.6 billion in April 2022, down from US$8.9 billion in the previous month.

Meanwhile, private sector ULN increased slightly compared to the previous month. The private sector ULN position in April 2022 was US$210.2 billion, up from US$206.9 billion in the previous month.

BI noted that Indonesia's ULN structure remains healthy, supported by the application of prudent principles in its management.

Indonesia's ULN in April 2022 remained controlled, reflected in the ratio of Indonesia's ULN to Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which remained at around 32.5%. This figure decreased compared to the ratio in the previous month of 33.7%.

Similarly, the structure of Indonesia's ULN remains stable. This is indicated by Indonesia's ULN remaining dominated by long-term ULN, with a share reaching 87.5% of the total ULN.
