Based on the *Global Transport Index* released by European insurance company William Russell, Paris is the city with the best public transportation in the world in 2023.
William Russell assessed the quality of transportation in 19 cities from various countries listed on CityTransit, a global sustainable mobility data aggregator website.
The assessment was based on several indicators, such as the average cost of public transportation, the number of public transportation stops per 100,000 people, the public transportation fleet per 1 million people, the number of metro/subway routes, the availability of bicycle rental services, and the number of electric vehicles per 100,000 people.
Paris received a perfect score on these indicators. "The romantic city of Paris achieved the highest score in our global transport index, with a score of 10 out of 10," said the William Russell team in their report on Tuesday (June 20, 2023).
The transportation services in the French capital are considered superior due to the many vehicle options and their affordability.
Stockholm ranked second with a score of 9.41 points. According to this report, Stockholm is also one of the most environmentally friendly cities in Europe, thanks to the high availability of public transportation and the large number of electric vehicles.
Hong Kong came in third with 8.82 points. Public transportation fares in Hong Kong are considered cheap, and the availability of buses is high.
