KSEI: Number of Capital Market Investors Reaches 7.15 Million as of November 2021

The Indonesian Central Securities Depository (KSEI) report shows that the number of capital market investors reached 7.15 million in November 2021. This figure is up 84.28% compared to the previous year, which stood at 3.88 million investors.

The majority of capital market investors are located on the island of Java, accounting for 69.87% of the total domestic investors. The remaining investors are from Sumatra (16.53%), Kalimantan (5.39%), Sulawesi (3.93%), Bali, East Nusa Tenggara, and West Nusa Tenggara (3.33%), and Maluku and Papua (0.95%).

In terms of age, capital market investors are dominated by millennials, those aged 30 and under, representing 59.81%.

The next largest group of investors is the 31-40 age group, accounting for 21.48%. Investors aged 41-50 years old make up 10.51%.

Investors aged 51-60 years old account for 5.23%, while the remaining 2.97% are aged 60 and above.

In terms of gender, the majority of capital market investors are male, at 62.45%. The remaining 37.55% are female.

Over the past four years, the number of capital market investors has steadily increased. Inarno Djajadi, President Director of the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI), stated that the growth in the number of investors is due to infrastructure improvements and technological transformation, such as faster and easier processes for opening Customer Fund Accounts (RDN) via internet-connected devices.
