Indonesia's IDX Composite Index (IHSG) Surges Near 7,000; Infrastructure Sector Leads (Wednesday, August 30, 2023)

The Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) strengthened by 8.82 points or 0.13% to 6,966.656 at the close of trading on Wednesday (August 30, 2023). The index is nearing the psychological level of 7,000.

The rise in the stock index today was led by the infrastructure sector, which saw the strongest increase.

Based on the IDX-IC Sectoral Index, infrastructure strengthened by 2.21%, followed by the health and basic materials sectors, which rose by 1% and 0.29%, respectively.

Meanwhile, six sectors experienced corrections, led by the transportation & logistics sector, which fell by 0.61%, followed by the technology sector (-0.43%) and the non-primary consumer goods sector (-0.39%).

According to RTI Business data, the frequency of stock trading on the domestic exchange today totaled 1.19 million transactions.

A total of 20.24 billion shares changed hands, with a transaction value reaching Rp 11.75 trillion.

OMED, with the code OMED, was among the top gainers after strengthening by 30.07%, followed by GPSO and NOBU, which increased by 23.08% and 16.8%, respectively.

On the other hand, the top losers today were PTMP, which weakened by 14.94%, followed by SMIL and IDEA, which contracted by 11.04% and 9.23%, respectively.

Although the stock index strengthened, the majority of stocks closed stagnant today. Specifically, 266 stocks were stagnant, 252 stocks weakened, and 239 stocks strengthened.

Meanwhile, regional Asian stock exchanges this afternoon included: the Nikkei index, which strengthened by 125.6 points or 0.39% to 32,352.6; the Hang Seng index, which weakened by 1.17 points or 0.01% to 18,482.859; the Shanghai index, which strengthened by 1.25 points or 0.04% to 3,137.14; and the Straits Times index, which weakened by 2.87 points or 0.09% to 3,220.22.
