Throughout 2022, several LQ45 mining stocks experienced significant gains. However, others weakened.
LQ45 is an index comprising 45 issuers selected by the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) based on specific criteria, such as having the largest market capitalization and highest liquidity.
This year, nine mining sector issuers were included in the LQ45 index, namely:
1. PT Indo Tambangraya Megah (ITMG)
2. PT Indika Energy (INDY)
3. PT Adaro Energy (ADRO)
4. PT Vale Indonesia (INCO)
5. PT Bukit Asam (PTBA)
6. PT Merdeka Copper Gold (MDKA)
7. PT Aneka Tambang (ANTM)
8. PT Timah (TINS)
9. PT Harum Energy (HRUM)
Among this group, ITMG was the mining stock with the largest increase. Between January 3 and December 27, 2022, its share price surged 105.10% (year-to-date/ytd). Significant gains were also seen in INDY, ADRO, INCO, and PTBA shares.
However, over the same period, MDKA shares weakened by 1.21% (ytd). Even steeper declines occurred in ANTM, TINS, and HRUM, as detailed in the graph.
The Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) increased by 2.62% (ytd) between January 3 and December 27, 2022.
This year, the IHSG reached a record high, surpassing the psychological level of 7,000 in March 2022. The IHSG then experienced a significant drop to around 6,500 in mid-May, but its trend strengthened again until the end of December.
