Indonesia's External Debt by Economic Sector as of May 2025

According to the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu), Indonesia's external debt (ULN) as of May 2025 amounted to US$435.592 billion. This figure represents a 6.8% year-on-year (yoy) increase.

This debt comprises government and central bank loans totaling US$239.169 billion and private sector debt amounting to US$196.423 billion.

Specifically within the private sector, borrowers include financial institutions, banks, Non-Bank Financial Institutions (LKBB), and non-financial institutions.

By economic sector, Indonesia's ULN is highest in the financial and insurance services category. This is followed by the manufacturing industry and the health and social services sectors.

• Financial and insurance services: US$85.853 billion
• Manufacturing industry: US$49.647 billion
• Health and social services: US$47.103 billion
• Electricity and gas supply: US$39.528 billion
• Government administration, defense, and mandatory social security: US$39.227 billion
• Education services: US$34.498 billion
• Mining and quarrying: US$32.207 billion
• Transportation and warehousing: US$26.99 billion
• Construction: US$26.306 billion
• Agriculture, forestry, and fisheries: US$16.195 billion
• Water supply, waste management, waste and recycling: US$8.942 billion
• Wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles: US$8.846 billion
• Information and communication: US$5.872 billion
• Corporate services: US$4.554 billion
• Real estate: US$3.308 billion.

Accommodation and food service activities: US$433 million

Other services: US$6.083 billion.
