Post-Eid Holiday, IHSG Plunges 7.9% (Tuesday, April 8, 2025)

The Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) plummeted 7.90% to 5,996.14 on Tuesday (April 8, 2025), the first trading day after the Lebaran holiday.

Earlier, the IHSG had even fallen 9% at the opening of this morning's trading. The exchange then implemented a trading halt, or temporary suspension of trading.

According to Maximilianus Nicodemus, Associate Director of Research and Investment at Pilarmas Investindo Sekuritas, today's index decline was influenced by sentiment related to United States (US) policy.

"The market was surprised by the US government's policy announcing a new import tariff policy, where Indonesia is subject to a 32% tariff," he said, as reported by Antara, Tuesday (April 8, 2025).

Based on the IDX-IC Sectoral Index, all 11 domestic stock sectors were corrected today.

The basic materials sector fell the most, by 10.54%, followed by the technology and non-primary consumer goods sectors, which fell 10.23% and 8.82%, respectively.

According to RTI Business data, the frequency of stock trading on the domestic exchange today was 1.42 million transactions.

A total of 22.78 billion shares changed hands, with a total transaction value of Rp 20.94 trillion.

672 stocks closed lower today, 95 stocks were stagnant, and 30 stocks strengthened.

The stock with the code PANI was today's top loser, falling 15%, followed by INCO and PTRO, which fell 14.89% and 14.75%, respectively.

Meanwhile, today's top gainer was SOSS, which soared 24.73%, followed by CTBN and NETV, which rose 9.95% and 9.79%, respectively.

Unlike the IHSG, the majority of Asian markets this afternoon were in the green. The Nikkei index rose 6.03% to 33,012.58; the Hang Seng index rose 1.51% to 20,127.68; the Shanghai index rose 1.58% to 3,145.55; while the Straits Times index fell 2.01% to 3,469.47.
