TikTok is reportedly about to announce a partnership with GoTo Gojek Tokopedia (GOTO) this week or next.
Sources from *DealStreetAsia*, as cited by *Katadata*, say that talks regarding a collaboration and investment between TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, and Tokopedia are in their final stages.
"The agreement may be announced as early as this week or next week," said the source, as reported on Wednesday (December 6, 2023).
Furthermore, several *DealStreetAsia* sources indicated that TikTok might acquire a small stake in Tokopedia, gradually increasing it to a majority stake.
"Initially, ByteDance wanted a 10% stake in Tokopedia. However, GoTo has encouraged them (ByteDance) to take over 50% and let them run that e-commerce business segment," said a source familiar with the development.
Discussions between ByteDance and GoTo Gojek Tokopedia have been ongoing since the Indonesian government banned the combination of social media and e-commerce features within a single app in September 2023. Besides GOTO, TikTok is also reportedly in talks with other e-commerce companies, such as Bukalapak and Blibli.
