Central government debt in May 2019 was the highest in the last year. The Ministry of Finance recorded central government debt at Rp 4,571.89 trillion. This government debt increased by 9.66% compared to May 2018, which was Rp 4,169.09 trillion. Compared to April 2019, which was Rp 4,528.5 trillion, government debt increased by 0.95%.
Although it increased, central government debt in May 2019 remained manageable. The government debt-to-Gross Domestic Product (GDP) ratio remained well below the 60% level, at 29.72%.
Central government debt consists of loans and state securities (SBN). Foreign loans totaled Rp 775.64 trillion and domestic loans totaled Rp 6.9 trillion. Meanwhile, SBN reached Rp 3,776.12 trillion, with rupiah denomination amounting to Rp 2,741.1 trillion and foreign currency denomination amounting to Rp 1,048.25 trillion.
