According to a Business of Apps report, TikTok's revenue reached US$4.6 billion in 2021. This figure soared 142% compared to 2020, which was US$1.9 billion.
This rapid increase in TikTok's revenue was driven by a surge in the number of users. By the second quarter of 2021, TikTok had 1 billion users, significantly more than the 700 million users in the previous year.
Looking at the trend, TikTok's revenue has steadily increased since 2017. At that time, the short-video application only generated US$63 million in revenue.
Its value continued to climb until 2021, with an average annual increase of 214%. The highest increase occurred in 2020, reaching 442.8%.
With the implementation of community activity restrictions during the pandemic, TikTok's popularity increased dramatically. These restrictions led to a significant increase in the intensity of social media use, including TikTok.
