The Jakarta Composite Index (IHSG) closed down 22.01 points, or 0.32%, to 6,899.39 on Thursday (24/8/2023).

The index weakened following Bank Indonesia (BI)'s announcement to hold its benchmark interest rate, the BI 7-Day Reverse Repo Rate (BI7DRR), at 5.75%. This decision was reached during the Board of Governors meeting on August 23-24, 2023.

In line with this decision, BI also maintained the deposit facility rate at 5% and the lending facility rate at 6.5%.

Meanwhile, three other sectors strengthened, with the basic materials sector rising the highest at 1.46%, followed by the transportation and logistics sector at 0.32%, and the financial sector at 0.01%.

Based on RTI Business data, the frequency of stock trading on the domestic exchange today was 1.12 million transactions.

A total of 20.41 billion shares changed hands, with a transaction value of Rp 9.05 trillion.

PTMP was the top loser today, falling 14.69%, followed by IDEA and GEMS, which contracted by 9.72% and 8.94%, respectively.

The top gainers today were AHAP, which rose 17.28%, followed by KKES and WINE, which rose 15.79% and 13.27%, respectively.

The majority of stock indices closed lower today. Specifically, 308 stocks weakened, 219 stocks strengthened, and 215 stocks were stagnant.

On the other hand, the majority of regional Asian stock exchanges strengthened this afternoon, with the following details:

* Nikkei Index rose 0.87% to 32,287.199;
* Hang Seng Index rose 2.05% to 18,212.17;
* Shanghai Index rose 0.12% to 3,082.24;
* Straits Times Index rose 0.21% to 3,180.72.
