Indonesia's Government External Debt Reaches Rp 2,972.1 Trillion in the First Half of 2021

Based on the Bank Indonesia (BI) Foreign Debt Statistics (SULNI) report, the government's foreign debt (ULN) amounted to US$ 205.03 billion, or Rp 2,972.1 trillion (using an exchange rate of Rp 14,469/US$), in June 2021. This figure represents a 0.7% month-to-month (m-to-m) increase.

Compared to June 2020, the government's ULN grew by 4.3% year-on-year (yoy). However, compared to the end of last year, the government's ULN decreased by 0.65% year-to-date (ytd).

Government ULN in the form of loans totaled US$ 57.09 billion, or 27.85% of the total. This includes US$ 21.66 billion in bilateral loans, US$ 2.94 billion in commercial loans, and US$ 32.5 billion in multilateral loans.

Meanwhile, government ULN in the form of government securities (SBN) reached US$ 147.94 billion, or 72.15%. This comprises US$ 80.73 billion in international SBNs and US$ 67.21 billion in domestic SBNs.

The government's ULN reached its peak of US$ 210.76 billion in January 2021, but subsequently decreased in the following months.

The central bank's ULN reached US$ 2.83 billion in June 2021. Therefore, the total foreign debt of the government and the central bank amounted to US$ 207.87 billion.
