China Became Indonesia's Largest Fish Importer in 2020

The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) recorded that Indonesia imported 277 million kilograms (kg) of fishery products worth US$428 million in 2020. China was the largest importer of fishery products, with a value of US$57.23 million, equivalent to 13.37% of the total imports to Indonesia.

The United States (US) ranked second with fishery product imports valued at US$41.9 million (9.7%). Norway followed with fishery product imports worth US$36.75 million (8.6%).

Imports of fishery products from South Korea reached US$36.62 million (8.6%). From Seychelles, Indonesia imported fishery products worth US$22.62 million (5.3%).

The Netherlands imported fishery products to Indonesia valued at US$22.26 million (5.2%). Although ranked sixth, the volume of fishery product imports from the Netherlands was the largest last year, at 62.5 million kg.

Fishery product imports from Peru were recorded at US$18.93 million (4.42%). Imports of fishery products from Japan and Malaysia were US$18.24 million (4.26%) and US$15.81 million (3.7%), respectively. Meanwhile, fishery product imports from Chile amounted to US$14.96 million (3.5%).

By commodity, fishmeal and pellets had the highest import value in 2020, at US$105.76 million, followed by blue crabs and crabs with imports valued at US$56.04 million.

Mackerel imports were recorded at US$35.87 million. Salmon/trout and fish fat/oil imports were US$35.35 million and US$16.12 million, respectively.

Indonesia also imported sardines/sardinella worth US$13.86 million. Meanwhile, imports of other fishery products amounted to US$106.14 million.
