Sweet Success! Tesla Car Shipments Increase Every Year

Tesla has experienced yearly growth in electric vehicle shipments worldwide. Reports show that the company led by Elon Musk delivered 184,877 units in Q1 2021.

Over the past five years, Tesla saw a surge in demand in 2018, increasing from 103,181 units in 2017 to 245,506 units the following year—a 137.9% increase. This number continued to rise in subsequent years, reaching 367,656 units in 2019 and 499,647 units in 2020.

Tesla is currently under scrutiny for recalling approximately 285,000 electric vehicles from China. The recall is reportedly due to a safety issue with the cruise control feature.

According to the State Administration for Market Regulation, the cruise control system in some models may activate when the driver attempts to shift gears or unexpectedly touches the gear shifter. This results in sudden acceleration, causing a system malfunction.

The recall includes 35,665 Model 3 vehicles and 249,855 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles produced at Tesla's Shanghai factory in China. Furthermore, Tesla is reportedly struggling to dominate the Chinese market, as five policy institutions have questioned the quality of Model 3 vehicles manufactured in the Shanghai factory, as cited by CNN.
