China, the World's Largest Pork Consumer in 2021

Pork is one of the most popular meats in the world, second only to beef. Pork contains nine essential amino acids and is rich in B vitamins, which are important for red blood cell production and the proper functioning of the nervous system.

According to the Foreign Agricultural Service, China is the world's largest consumer of pork, consuming 50.4 million metric tons in 2021. China is also the world's largest producer of pork, with production reaching 46 million metric tons in 2021.

Besides China, pork is also widely consumed in the European Union, with consumption reaching 18.8 million metric tons. This is followed by the United States and Russia, with pork consumption of 9.8 million metric tons and 3.5 million metric tons respectively.

The next largest pork consumers are Brazil (3.03 million metric tons), Vietnam (2.88 million metric tons), and Japan (2.73 million metric tons).

Mexico and South Korea consumed 2.22 million metric tons and 1.9 million metric tons of pork respectively. The United Kingdom consumed 1.5 million metric tons of pork.
