Based on data from the SiHalal application processed by the Presidential Staff Office (KSP), the number of halal-certified products in Indonesia has shown an upward trend over the past four years.
In 2020, only 59,400 halal-certified products were recorded. A year later, this number increased to 315,660 products.
By 2022, the number skyrocketed to 704,980. Furthermore, the latest data collected on September 20, 2023, shows the number has reached 1.42 million products. The 2023 achievement is the highest in the past four years.
In its report, the KSP stated that these halal-certified products originate from micro, small, medium, and large-scale business units.
Separately, the Indonesian Vice President, Ma'ruf Amin, stated that the halal lifestyle is now an integral part of the daily lives of the global Muslim community.
Citing the official website of the Indonesian Vice President, Ma'ruf said that global Muslim consumption of halal food in 2021 reached US$1.27 trillion and is projected to reach US$1.6 trillion by 2025. Meanwhile, investment in the halal food sector almost reached US$4 billion in 2020-2021.
“In fact, the halal lifestyle now reaches the world's population regardless of religion or belief. This is because halal products are synonymous with guaranteed cleanliness, safety, and health of a product. This will certainly stimulate global demand for halal products in the future,” said Ma'ruf on September 18, 2023.
Specifically for Indonesia, said Ma'ruf, the consumption of halal products and services is projected to increase by approximately 15% in 2025, or US$281 billion. This condition makes halal certification a prerequisite for the halal lifestyle, as it provides consumers with assurance and protection regarding the products they purchase.
“From a regulatory standpoint, namely Law Number 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Guarantee, halal certification is a mandate that must be implemented. This regulation governs all products that enter, circulate, and are traded in Indonesia, which must be halal-certified,” said Ma'ruf.
